One-hundred and sixty years ago, two professors and 14 students gathered at a house in Toronto and from this small group the Knox College was born, and today the college celebrates its anniversary.
An address to the 160th Convocation of Knox College was delivered by Brian Stewart, CBC journalist and Gemini award-winner on May 13. In his speech, “On the Front Lines,” Brian disputed the notion of the church as out of touch with reality and how the church is actually at the forefront of human events today.
A panel discussion, “Jesus Goes to the Movies: The Gospel of John from Ancient Text to Modern Screen,” was held on May 12.
On May 17-18, A Korean language event, “Understanding Congregational Pastoral Care: 1Corinthians and Your Congregation” will be held with Dorcas Gordon and Anne Anderson. The College expects to hold events throughout the anniversary year.
The present Knox College building opened in 1915 and since then "over 75 per cent of the ministers serving the [Presbyterian Church] in congregational, local and international ministries were students in its classrooms, library, chapel and residence," says Principal Dorcas Gordon.
Today the college provides students with the opportunity to earn a master of divinity, a master of theological studies, and a master of religious education.
