Olivet Nazarene University offers Journalism Major

Faculty members of Olivet Nazarene University voted unanimously to offer a journalism major, beginning in the fall of 2004, to develop ethical journalists in the nation.

“The profession not only demands an integration of technology with writing, such as our online journalism course, but an integration of Christian ethics with professional preparation,” said Dr. Gregg Chenoweth, a journalism professor who developed the newly installed program.

The program will establish partnership with a business-to-business publication by The Small Newspaper Group distributed monthly to 4,000 Kankakee Country-area political and business leaders. Journalism students will provide business stories and profiles of area business for the publication.

About 12 percent of colleges and universities nationwide offer a significant program of at least 10 core content courses and Olivet is appropriate in the category with it’s 48-credit hour major.
