Peaceful Protestors Leave Baghdad

Teams of peaceful protestors traveling from Baghdad to Amman, arrive safely across the Jordan border, April 1. Included in the team of 13 are members of the Christian Peacemakers Teams, Iraq Peace Team, and Christian missionaries.

According to Claire Evans, personnel and delegation coordinator for CPT, the group decided to leave because of heightened tensions and security restrictions placed upon them by the Iraqi government.

With their leave, the team hopes to make a “witness for peace in Baghdad.” Their mission statement immdiatly following the war was to “reduce violence” and “accompany and befriend civilians in the event of escalating violence.”
