The documentary film “The Cross- Jesus in China” VCD/ DVD version is recently released in North America. At the end of October 2003, it has first premiered in Vancouver, Paris, London, New York, Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The film is highly appreciated by the Christian community since its first show.
Over the past 50 years when Communism conquered China in 1949, the Chinese Communist Party has continued to consistently enforce policies to limit Christianity in China. For the first time in history, Christianity in China, especially the House-Church, is given an honest, insightful, and comprehensive account. The total number of Chinese Christians has grown from 700,000 in 1949 to approximately 70 million today. How can this miracle happen in such an atheistic environment? “The Cross- Jesus in China” has provided all the answers.
“The Cross - Jesus in China” consists of three episodes namely “The Spring of Life”, “The Seed of Blood” and “The Bitter Cup” as well as one short subject. Its entire length is about four hours.
This four-hour film presents the real life and internal world of the contemporary Chinese Christians of all walks of life. It reports the bloody footprints of famous Chinese Christians of the old generation, including Wang Ming Dao, John Sung, Watchman Nee, Yuan Xiang Chen, Samuel Lin, Xie Mo Shan etc. It records touching testimonies of many young Christians dedicated to ministry after the Cultural Revolution. These brave gospel frontiers have opened a new way leading to the revival of Chinese Christian church.
For the short subject “Songs of Canaan”, records an amazing story: a farm girl named Xiao Ming, from the He Nan Province, without knowing how to read music, under the touch of the Holy Spirit has sung almost a thousand beautiful hymns sung by Chinese Churches both overseas and in China.
The crewmembers of the film are a group of devout Chinese Christians. Starting from 2000, they traveled to more than 18 provinces and major cities, and shot footage of several hundred underground churches and thousands of Christians. They shot nearly five hundred hours of footage, from which four hours were chosen to form the final version of the film.
