Lutheran Theological Seminary will hold Preaching Days sponsored by the Philadelphia Chapter of The Academy of Preachers in June 14-16.

For over 15 years, the Seminary held ecumenical gathering to discover and explore fresh insights, enhance skills and share perspectives on preaching. Each day features a sermon, lecture, a workshop, and free time for reflection on and renewal of preaching.

Susan Peterson, senior pastor of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Charles Rice, Professor Emeritus of Homiletics at Drew University, and Carolyn Knight, Assistant Professor of Homiletics at the Interdenominational Theological Center, are the speakers of the workshop.

Workshop topics include, “Understanding Grace in the 21st Century", "God Comes Down: The Forms of Grace in the Preaching of Edmund A. Steimle" and "Preaching in a Postmodern World."

Rev. Charles Rice commented about the workshop he will lead on the second day of the gathering, "In the most difficult and challenging times people have a hard time comprehending that God comes all the way down to them in love. Using the inspiring work of the late Dr. Edmund Steimle as a model, I want to explore in my workshop how Dr. Steimle’s understanding of God’s grace can expand our horizons for preaching today."

One course from the Seminary’s Graduate School summer schedule is offered in connection with Preaching Days. The event will also assist pastors in receiving funding for continuing education.
