The fifth annual "Beautiful Feet" mission conference will be held Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at Concordia University, Seward, Neb., under the theme "From Overseas to Overalls: Look at the Fields!" The conference, which is planned for and by college students under the auspices of LCMS World Mission, takes its name from Rom. 10:15 -- "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach Good News!" It is designed to strengthen existing student mission groups on campus, and to help students discover how they can become more involved in mission service. The conference is open to Lutheran students attending any college or university.
More than 200 students from campuses nationwide are expected to attend this year's conference, which will focus on missions in the Midwest -- from working with immigrants and refugees, to serving those in rural areas.
This year's conference appears to be the largest Beautiful Feet gathering to date, according to Rev. Steve Hughey, director of mission response and involvement with LCMS World Mission and conference adviser.
Hughey says there is a "mission movement [taking place] on our Lutheran campuses" and today's students are involved in mission like never before -- serving on short-term mission trips and reaching out into their communities.
Hughey said he and others are exploring the idea of starting a Beautiful Feet mission society that would help support the annual conferences and provide scholarships for students to attend them.
Registration for this year's conference is $95 and includes lodging and meals. Oct. 1 is the deadline for receiving the special conference hotel rate. Registrations may be made after that date, but the cost may be higher.
