Reddit CEO Steve Huffman has apologized for editing some comments against him amidst some calls for his resignation. Huffman admitted last week that he meddled with the posts of some Redditors and redirected it to the moderators of The_Donald. The whole incident comes after Reddit has banned the controversial Pizzagate subreddit.

Huffman posted on Reddit that he would not edit posts again. He also added that they are updating on their "internal controls to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the future". Though there are those who wanted to ban The_Donald, Huffman refused to do it in the spirit of healing both Reddit and the US. He pointed out that the forum is a place where "voices can be heard" especially by those who feel alienated.

However, he reiterated that the abusive, hateful and unacceptable behavior of some members in The_Donald should not the tolerated. Huffman cited the opening statement of Reddit's Content Policy that all users have to "show enough respect to others". The CEO vowed to take a more "aggressive stance against toxic users and poorly behaving communities".

Aside from owning up to his mistake, Huffman also explained their "more proactive approach". Apparently, Reddit has already identified "hundreds of the most toxic users". The social media platform will issue a warning or permanent ban to them. Others who are behaving really badly with no sign of changing their ways will be given an outright ban. Huffman has also enabled filtering for all the Reddit members. Users are advised to modify this setting by visiting the forum on their desktop.

Reddit's previous approach seemed to be ineffective. According to Fortune, banning sub-Reddits and removing moderators are not enough. Twitter also faces the same problem. It just recently added a new feature in its mute function. As for Reddit, though empowering moderators has quite done something to address this, it still does not entirely solve the problem. It remains to be seen if this latest approach will do something to reduce the toxicity of the forum.

It should be noted that members of The_Donald had been critical of Huffman to the point of calling him several inappropriate names. This was in protest of the management's decision to ban the Pizzagate subreddit. When he retaliated by editing their posts and made an admission of his action, some of the President-elect's supporters called for his resignation. He was accused of "censoring parts of Reddit, the administration does not agree with", according to The Blaze.
