The fastest Civic ever is coming here. The 10th generation Civic promises to be the most powerful of its kind. It is also the fastest production front-wheel drive car on the market today. With a 306-horsepower, the new Civic Type R is coming to the United States for the first time!

In the past 25 years, Honda has been making lightweight, race-ready Type R versions of its powerful vehicles. Those cars have landed in Europe, Japan, and Australia...basically in many parts of the globe but not in the USA. Now, the new Civic Type R is going to be sold in the country.

Let's check out what this powerful car has in store for us.

Engine Power and Road Performance

The latest Civic Type R is packed with 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that can produce 306 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and a pure 295 lb-ft of torque from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. 306 horsepower sure seems like a lot of power to put through the front wheels of any car, but Honda engineers developed many tricks inside to keep it on track.

The UK-made Honda Civic Type R can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 272km/h. On the road, this machine is rated at 28 mpg on the highway, 22 mpg in the city, and 25 mpg combined, according to CarThrottle.

As a proof of the car's prowess, Honda put it into test in Germany's Nürburgring racetrack. The car completed the circuit in just in 7 minutes and 43.8 seconds, making it the fastest car on the world-famous racing track.

Technology and New Features

The new Type R offers three driving modes, the most relaxed being "Comfort." In this mode, the suspension is very light, and steering is very smooth. Sport mode is the default mode. It is also good for occasional sporty driving tricks. For those who want to go harder, toggle to +R mode. The suspension is at its stiffest in this mode and throttle is very reactive.

Inside, the driver and occupants are overindulged with 2018 Type R's "suede-effect" fabric. Plus, the car has 7.0-inch TFT LCD screen with unique graphics and menus.

Honda Sensing driver assistance suit comes as a standard for 2018 Civic Type R. Drivers can drive safely, thanks to Honda's forward collision warning, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, traffic sign recognition, and autonomous emergency braking (AEB).

Price and Release Date

The new Honda Civic Type was first introduced during the Geneva Auto Show this March. The UK-produced Civic is expected to hit the market in July. For the US version, it was revealed in New York in April and sales already started on June 14.

Interestingly, the first 2018 Honda Civic Type R has been sold for more than $US200, 000 at an auction,  Autoblog reported. That amount is six times more than the recommended retail price of the vehicle in the United States. Honda officials said proceeds was donated to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

Honda Australia director Stephen Collins said the price of 2018 Honda Civic Type R in the United States starts around $33,900.
